BOSTON -- In the opener of a Hockey East weekend series, No. 19 Boston University used an early goal in the second period to edge ahead of the visiting Vermont Catamounts by a 2-1 score on Friday night at Agganis Arena. With a 17-10 shots advantage in the second period, UVM took over a 28-24 overall edge after 40 minutes.

The Terriers jumped ahead by a 2-1 count with their - and junior Matt Nieto's - second power play goal of the contest just 4:00 into the second period. Needham, Massachusetts freshman Danny O'Regan sent the puck through a seam across Brody Hoffman's crease and on to Nieto for the easy tap-in and his 13th strike of the season.

UVM swarmed the net on a power play in the final minutes with junior Connor Brickley's tip onto BU rookie Sean Maguire serving as the best chance of the night for the Cats, despite skidding just wide - one of their 17 shots on goal in the stanza.
