BOSTON -- In a slow first period at Agganis Arena, the No. 12 UMass-Lowell River Hawks and No. 13 Boston University Terriers skated to a 0-0 tie in the second of three meetings between the sides on Friday night. The teams totaled just ten total shots on goal as the River Hawks look to take the season series, which would prove to be crucial in the Hockey East league standings.
Entering this weekend's home-and-home series, which continues on Saturday at Tsongas Center, the teams were separated by just two points as BU is tied with Providence for the final home ice spot.
The teams took four minutes to record the first shot on goal of the contest as BU rookie defenseman Matt Grzelyck fired a wrister onto goal that was saved by UML's Connor Hellebuyck to stop play.
With 13:16 to go, the River Hawks had the best chance of the period as sophomore Terrence Wallin took a straightaway wrist shot from the center point that beat BU's Matt O'Connor and clanked iron, keeping the scoreless tie.
