Michigan Tech hockey head coach Mel Pearson has picked up a verbal commitment from British Columbia Hockey League forward Mason Blacklock. The Surrey, BC native has played for four different junior teams in the BCHL since lacing up the skates in that league in 2010.
Blacklock first played for the Langley Chiefs followed by the Nanaimo Clippers and Surrey Eagles. He finished up last season and will skate this season with the Vernon Vipers. The six-foot-one-inch forward tallied 19 goals and 16 assists in 53 games last season between Nanaimo, Surrey and Vernon.
Blacklock is a player that could develop into a scoring threat in the new WCHA for Mel Pearson's Huskies. The Lethbridge Hurricanes selected him in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft. The 19 year-old left-shot forward is expected to arrive in Houghton for the fall of 2014.
