University of Minnesota players saluting their fans following a sweep - Minnesota Athletics
The Golden Gophers and Fighting Irish play each other Tuesday in a battle of top-ranked teams.
Despite being idle, no one could topple Minnesota in the college hockey polls.
The Golden Gophers remain the #1 team in the nation for the second straight week in both the USCHO and USA Today/USA Magazine polls. They received 38 of the 50 USCHO first-place votes; up from 35 votes last week.
Minnesota's next game is Tuesday at home against the number two team in the nation, Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish, who are tied for the CCHA lead, jumped over Boston College this week and received eight first-place votes. The Eagles, meanwhile, fell to third following a 3-3 tie to Yale.
New Hampshire and Quinnipiac round out the USCHO top five. UNH defeated RPI in their only game of the weekend while the Bobcats extended their unbeaten streak to 14 games this weekend with wins over Dartmouth, who fell from 8th to 12th, and Harvard.
Miami, North Dakota, Boston University, Denver and Western Michigan are the rest of the top ten.
Two teams, Colgate (#19) and Massachusetts-Lowell (#20), entered the polls this week. They replaced Holy Cross and Robert Morris, each of whom lost this past weekend.
And now the usual disclaimers: Polls are for entertainment and have no bearing on NCAA Tournament positions. Those would be the PairWise rankings - found here. Currently Boston College is the number one team in the PairWise while Minnesota and Notre Dame are sixth and fourth, respectively.
