After initially scoring to bring the Mavericks within a goal of Minnesota in the third period, Johnny McInnis had his 12th goal of the season waved off. Minnesota State would go on to lose to the Gophers 4-1 and split the series.
There were a pair of overturned calls Saturday night that went against Minnesota State, but it was the second that hurt more.
The Mavericks were down 3-1 and had just scored a goal with 7:01 remaining when a shot went off of Johnny McInnis and past Minnesota goaltender Adam Wilcox. It was initially ruled a goal on the ice to bring Minnesota State within one of the Gophers but overturned after a long review. Replay showed that it went off of McInnis' glove rather than his stick or body.
The video of the no-goal can be seen above.
Instead of scoring two goals in 27 seconds, the no-goal killed the Mavericks' momentum and Minnesota went on to win 4-1. Regardless of the two overturned calls, Minnesota scored two power plays on a stingy Minnesota State penalty kill and controlled play for the majority of the game.
