Boston College announced today that defenseman Patch Alber will be out for three months after the senior underwent surgery to repair a displaced lateral meniscus in his knee.

Alber, who has 3 assists in 14 games this season, injured his knee prior to BC's' 5-2 win Saturday over Alabama-Huntsville during the team's soccer warm-up.The 5'10", 170 lbs defenseman missed both games of last weekend's Mariucci Classic and with the three month timeline would be looking at a return for the Frozen Four should the Eagles get there.

Regardless, losing Alber on the blue line for that amount of time is a blow for Boston College. The team was without Isaac MacLeod and Alber this past weekend and started five freshmen defensemen. That includes two who made their college hockey debuts in Travis Jeke and Peter McMullen. Although MacLeod will return soon, losing senior leadership on a young blue line hurts.
