WCHA commissioner-for-now Bruce McLeod "discussed" Kyle Rau's one game suspension for hitting Jason Zucker in the absolute most Bruce McLeod way possible, meaning he talked at length about boring, stupid things no one cares about, and refused to give any real information on pertinent issues. Your money quote:
“We decided in the Zucker-Rau incident, after looking at all the factors involved, that there were enough other circumstances involved,” said McLeod, who didn’t specify said circumstances.

zucker and the commish
Rau’s suspension was entirely due to the fact the game was cablecast nationally on NBC Sports. A week earlier, Zucker left his feet and drove both elbows into the back of CC Tiger captain Nick Dineen’s head, leaving him with a concussion and unavailable for both games vs. Bemidji.
The league failed to suspend Zucker, in fact until the Rau suspension, there has not been any supplemental discipline in the WCHA this season, to my knowledge. If the league office does not protect the players, who will? McLeod and Greg Shepherd are failing miserably in this area. The health of the players is at stake here, especially in light of the generally miserable officiating in the league.
Fortunately (and unfortunately), there will only be one more season of this negligence onthe part of the league office to enforce the rules of the game and protect the health of the players.
