NHL Draft Lottery

The NHL held their annual draft lottery, and nothing really happened. All 14 teams stayed in the same slot they were in in the standings. That means Edmonton will have the first overall pick. Boston gets the second overall pick, thanks to the Phil Kessel trade. Florida picks third, which is where the real excitement begins after the two big names go off the board.

With the order of the first 14 picks being determined, TSN took the opportunity to poll NHL scouts again, and come up with a consensus top 10. Taylor Hall leads over Tyler Seguin, Cam Fowler is still in third, and Derek Forbort checks in at 10 on the list. Bob McKenzie also wrote an article on the rankings. It gives you a really good idea of what the general mindset is.

Of note from McKenzie: Seven of 10 scouts had Hall over Seguin; neither was placed outside of the top two. Cam Fowler's grasp on the third spot has slipped since mid-year. Hall, Seguin, Fowler, Erik Gudbranson, and Brett Connolly were the only players to be on all ten top ten lists. Nino Niederreiter and Brandon Gormley were on nine of 10 lists. This didn't make the article, but Riley Sheahan, Nick Bjugstad, and Beau Bennett all got at least one top ten vote.
