College Hockey Inc, Pointstreak Combine for Live Scoreboard
For those of you not following me on Twitter (@ChrisDilks, btw), hockey stat site Pointstreak sent out a press release this afternoon saying that they had reached a long-term agreement with College Hockey Inc. to create a live college hockey scoreboard.
From the release:
Under the terms of the agreement Pointstreak will provide its industry leading real-time scoring and statistics platform as well as the newly launched Pointstreak Live Publisher which combines Pointstreak's real-time scoring software with recently acquired STEVA Sports Software's technologies. This partnership and merging of technologies will now provide College Hockey Inc. with the capability to automatically capture real-time scores and video highlights while simultaneously indexing the highlight to the relevant statistical event (e.g. goal). This content will then be automatically uploaded to www.collegehockeyinc.com and delivered to mobile devices within moments of the event taking place.
Quite frankly, that sounds incredible. One of the goals that Paul Kelly mentioned last year, was creating a single place where college hockey fans could get real-time scores from games around the country, and this looks like it could go even a step beyond.
They also sent out a sample screenshot of what it would look like, which you can view here.
There was no time frame mentioned on when this would begin, but the release does say "Fans and media should be aware that not all games will be available through this platform until January, 2011."

Even if he does nothing else other than this, he’s already succeeded. This is tremendous.

The moment any part of it is embeddable or widget-able, it goes on my site.

Call me skeptical for now ...
The first question that occurs to me is whether or not this will be a subscription service. The release indicates that the data will be uploaded to collegehockeyinc.com servers. Why not make an agreement for Pointstreak to host the data as they do with so many other leagues? Well, it’d be simpler and more efficient to sell it if it’s on your own server I’d guess.
We're fan friendly!
Hi. Marketing guy from Pointstreak here. The real-time scoring/multi-media website/video platform we’ve created for College Hockey Inc. is not going to be a subscription service, from what I understand. Like most of our services, it’s free for fans and the public to use. It’s all part of our model of making awesome, fan friendly technology.
Thanks for the positive comments! Help spread the word to other fans! => http://collegehockeyinc.com/view/ncaa/home-page

Dear Gregg,
Excellent news. As for your live scoreboard … I can best suggest that you take a look at the live scoreboard that collegehockeynew.com just implemented. I’ve compared both and would encourage anyone else to take a look there as well. From what I see, CHN is hands down better at this point. And no, I’m not associated with CHN other than the occassional email to A. Wodon.
I’ll echo these comments. After checking out College Hockey News’ service, you guys have some work to do to get me to come back. Not only that, but who-ever came up with the abbreviations on the scorebar on the main CHInc page clearly doesn’t know a thing about college hockey, let alone the teams playing… (BUN for Boston Univ? What’s wrong with a simple BU? OHI for Ohio State? When the rest of the world uses OSU? NEB for Nebraska-Omaha? What’s wrong with UNO? I could go on just about all day)
That’s gotta change.
Hubbs!
