Best of the West #19: William Wrenn, Denver

William Wrenn, Defenseman, 6-1 200 lbs., US National Development Program

Role he'll likely play: Wrenn is a solid defensive defenseman that will likely play on DU's second or third pairing, and contribute on the penalty kill.

Why he is ranked here: Wrenn's game isn't very flashy or explosive. He's a steady, extremely physical defensive defenseman that likes to get under the skin of opponents. He'll be a very good player, but probably doesn't quite have the talent to be a great player.

Why he'll be great: Wrenn plays great defense, which will allow teammates to take more chances offensively. He gives the Pioneers a tough, physical presence that will punish the opposition's top offensive players.

Why he might not: Wrenn doesn't have the same high-end ability as some of the other prospects ahead of him, and isn't huge(Denver gave him an extra half inch and 10 lbs. since he was measured at the NHL Combine) for a guy that makes a living pushing people around.

Contrived Rivals-style star ranking: 4 stars
