Early 2010 NHL Draft Watch List

NHL.com has really been expanding their draft coverage, and got things started off for 2010 with this list of players to watch. It's a pretty good start to the list, though apparently they didn't get out to see the NTDP U-17 team last year, since a number of those kids should factor into the draft somewhere.

You can compare that list with my initial 2010 draft list. It looks like there were only a couple guys I had rated as As that they didn't  One was Jack Campbell. They had former teammate Willie Yanakeff rated over him, which I think most would agree is lunacy. Jon Merrill, Jason Zucker, and Kevin Clare were all part of the aforementioned missing NTDPers. And they didn't list Brendan O'Donnell at all. He's a bit of a wildcard having played Manitoba AAA hockey last year, and it sounds like he'll play in the MJHL next year, but he really stood out to me at the Fargo Force tryout camp.

They were missing some key US players for sure and your list was missing a huge number of canadians. Guess we can forgive you, but Central Scouting should do their homework better. I am very surprised by some of their choices and omissions!

Watson? Gormley?

Central Scouting did miss quite a few American players but how did you miss Austin Watson and Brandon Gormley. Was this intentional because both players chose to go to the CHL instead of NCAA? Both could go in the top 10 and are certain first rounders.

Etem?

You forgot Emerson Etem too – Obviously left off your list because he bolted the US NTDP program for the Dub?

If you’re going to keep a list make sure you don’t let your ridiculous and obvious biases affect your choices.

If you read my post, it says I was just listing players that I had seen. As for the individuals mentioned….

Gormley: Never seen him play

Watson: Haven’t seen him play in a really long time. It probably wouldn’t have been fair to list him.

Etem: Tough case. He obviously had a very nice year stat-wise. He’s always struck me as kind of a lanky, awkward kid with a ton of potential. If he plays well this next season, he’ll definitely be drafted.
