Reaching question on Gedig

Gedig doesn’t turn 18 until September; I assume he couldn’t be committed until next season anyway? I’m wondering whether he’s going to have to continue in the BCHL or find some school somewhere real soon?

Players can verbally commit at any age.

As far as next year, he’s a very late ‘91 birthdate, so I’m not sure if he’s graduated high school yet or will next year. Even if he did graduate this year, he wouldn’t necessarily have to go to college next year. It’s very common for players to play a year or two of juniors after they graduate high school. Since he’s young, I’d guess teams will wait to let him mature for another year and see how he develops before making a decision on him.

Maybe he can play 3 years of juniors, 5 years in the beer leagues and then he might be ready for the WCHA. Come on college hockey, let’s get away from the 22 year old freshman and let kids get on with their professional lives in corporate America. I sat at the 16 festival last week and listened to all the college coaches say how far these kids were from playing college hockey. The reality of it is is that 100 of the 140 kids there will play division one college hockey. 15 Of the best will go play in the CHL, 22 will go to the NTDP, and that group could easily play for the top NCAA teams. Keep playing the waiting game, and more and more Yanks will be heading north. The number of Americans playing in the CHL continues to grow each year, and it is only a matter of time before that number of 15 kids going each year will be 50.

Great writeup. Don’t know where you get your goods but it’s mighty impressive!
