It's Finally Going to Happen: UNO and BSU to WCHA
Kevin Pates at the Duluth News-Tribune is reporting that Nebraska-Omaha and Bemidji State joining the WCHA is a done deal, that will be formalized this afternoon.
After another round of negotiations with Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday, both sides seem to have reached an agreement that they are happy with. Nebraska-Omaha and Bemidji State will begin play in the WCHA in the 2010-2011 season, meaning Bemidji State won't have to play a season as an independent.
It will be interesting to see if the terms of UNO's admission come out. I'd imagine they got a pretty sweet deal. The big winner here is Bemidji State which no longer has to worry about not having a conference to play in.
So a mere two and a half years after I suggested this conference set-up, it finally gets done. WCHA commissioner Bruce McLeod deserves credit for finally getting this done, and helping out the game of college hockey. Alabama-Hunstville is now the only former CHA team without a home, but they will get a chance to apply to the CCHA, and this development has to make their admission almost a given.

Sure hope it happens
Just a slight correction: UAH sent in its application to the CCHA back in January, days after Niagara and Robert Morris announced they were moving to Atlantic Hockey.
So now the CCHA has the paperwork, they’ve made the site visit and voiced their concerns back to UAH. Now we wait for a vote.

What about the playoff schedule?
Would it now be the WCHA Final Six? (with seeds #1 and #2 getting a bye, and #3 vs. #6 and #4 vs. #5?) Doesn’t have the same ring to it, that’s for sure, but this would probably be the fairest set-up.
