Fisher Leaves Minnesota
Minnesota sophomore forward/defenseman Drew Fisher will transfer to Bemidji State for his final two years of eligibility. Ideally, Fisher will get to play closer to his home of International Falls, and play in the WCHA for at least one of his final two years of school.
His departure represents a growing problem at Minnesota. The Gophers have had trouble finding and keeping depth players in their program, which has left them shorthanded at times over the past couple of seasons.

Keeping Depth Players is Difficult in General
Really, it comes down to the expectations set for the player. Any player who comes in with a 50% or less scholarship should probably realize that they might not play every night, and they should be comfortable with that. Fisher apparently didn’t get that message, whether the error in communication was his or the coach’s is unknown, and it probably differs by perspective.
I think he’ll be happy with the playing time he gets at Bemidji. More power to him!
