Stoa Signs with Avalanche
I've been waiting all day for a reputable source to confirm Ryan Stoa signing with the Colorado Avalanche, but all I've seen so far is a drug addict, an anything-but-sports radio station, and Shooter, which is like the trifecta of questionable sources in the Twin Cities.
But we'll go with it and say that Minnesota's Ryan Stoa has signed with the Colorado Avalanche. Technically Stoa could have come back for another season, but he had been at Minnesota for four years and was probably ready to start his pro career. The Avalanche are pretty brutal right now. On the plus side, it's given some ex-college guys like Matt Hendricks, Derek Peltier, and Wes O'Neill the opportunity to say that they were once an NHL hockey player. Stoa might get an opportunity to step in right away as well.
It will be interesting to see if anyone else follows Stoa out the door at Minnesota. His signing was pretty expected, but there could be two or three others that also leave Minnesota over the summer.

Bad news
Bad for the Gophers. Good for Stoa and the Avs. Thanks for posting the info.

The only way to avoid failure, is to learn from it.
It's out there
From the Strib: Gophers’ Stoa signs NHL contract
And from the Avs site: Stoa Signed To Entry Level Deal
Carman
Stoa has nothing to do with Carman – besides Carman didn’t do jack this year.
Who might follow him? I mean, if it is the case that two or three more sign, then I can probably guess who they are, but no one else looked even vaguely ready. David Fischer is slowly getting better, but still doesn’t look anything like a first round pick. (Then again, as defensemen go, neither does Mark Mitera.) Carman is far too streaky; if he played his best all the time, then, sure, he’d be ready, but he doesn’t. Barriball still doesn’t impress me that much, though he’s got some skills. Schroeder really needs at least one more year.

mark mitera doesnt look anything like a first round pick? wow you must’ve really not watch a whole lot of college hockey over the last four years becuase mitera has been the ccha’s best defenseman over the last 3 years, ask any opposing coach. you can keep talking about the gophers all you want because maybe you might know something but keep our michigan players, especially our best players, out of your mouth. mitera could’ve been in the ducks d rotation 3 years ago! maybe he doesnt look like a first round pick at the moment but maybe thats because he missed the whole year after having reconstructive knee surgery in october and still made it back for senior night!
The last two years, Mitera has been absolutely brutal in Michigan’s tournament loss. Yesterday, it was his error that allowed the 2-1 for Air Force’s second goal, and he had the same problem two more times over the next five minutes. Last year in the semi-final, he was a -3, and deserved it. So, the times I have seen him play over the last two years, he certainly hasn’t been anything like the best defensive defenseman in anything.
