Weekend Recap
What Was Good
St. Cloud-The Huskies had picked up some "good splits" the past couple weekends against better teams like Denver and Wisconsin, but also split with lowly Michigan Tech. They didn't put together six solid periods last weekend, but they played well enough to earn a sweep over a weaker opponent, which a lot of teams have failed to do against UAA.
Miami-Notre Dame has played well below their capabilities this year, but it's still impressive to hold that much talent off the scoreboard for an entire weekend. The Big 3 in the CCHA this year has quickly turned into the Big 1.
Lake Superior-A six point sweep moved them from the bottom of the conference to 8th place, and within six points of 3rd place.
Denver-Won a big series and moved into sole possession of first place.
Wisconsin-14 goals on the weekend in a sweep over lowly Michigan Tech. Brendan Smith now has 15 points in his last 7 games, and is third in the country in scoring.
Ferris State-This team just does not lose at home.
What Wasn't So Good
Alaska-Anchorage-I believe their fans owe CC radio announcer Ken Landau an apology.
Michigan-Couldn't capitalize on the momentum from Thanksgiving with another sweep.
North Dakota-I can sympathize. Playing at the DECC is playing a baseball game in the Metrodome. You just wait for something goofy to screw over your team--in this case, it was a puck going off the netting above the goal right before UMD's game-tying goal--but UND did blow a two-goal third period lead a week after blowing a two-goal third period lead in their tie with Miami.
Michigan State-Now that their top line has cooled a litlte bit, they're really struggling to score again.

DECC
Comparing the DECC to the Metrodome is weak. The Metrodome is a football stadium poorly manipulated to create a baseball park. The DECC is traditional size hockey rink. Go back to a time prior to the Olympic sized sheets, and every college program used a rink this size. It is an old time hockey barn. Players and coaches, both visitors and home, enjoy it. They realize that the game happens quicker there, but it is not in any way a college hockey Metrodome. The North Dakota call could have happened on any rink. It was an officiating issue, not a problem with the rink.

Uh, Chris?
Ken Landau = announcer

Two different people. So I’m not sure what your point is there.

Michigan State drought
I’m not so much worried about MSU’s scoring 5-on-5. It’s their abysmal power play that has me perplexed. Productive in the first 8 games of the season, Spartans have scored PPG’s in only one game in the last 7.
