Bringing More Technology to Hockey

There's some interesting technological revelations that are starting to gain ground in the NHL, and could someday trickle down to the college game.

On the Forecheck links to an interview with the NHL's Chief Technological Officer that discusses some new ways to track puck movement and speed.

Meanwhile, the Atlanta Thrashers practiced with transponders on their helmet that would apparently capture data to be plugged into a computer program.

In listening to a few people who know more about this stuff than me, it sounds like there's a lot of bugs to be worked out for things like this, but once it is figured out, the possibilities for new information are limitless. It's nearly impossible to quantify many things during a hockey game, because so many little things are happening so fast, but if all that data was being recorded electronically, it could really change how people view a hockey game.
