So Long, Sam Lofquist
Minnesota defenseman Sam Lofquist has left school, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. He'll reportedly move on to the OHL.
Lofquist was a regular in the Gopher lineup last season, but his playing time diminished this season, partially because of an injury, though he was also a healthy scratch last weekend against Wisconsin. Physical talent was certainly never an issue for Lofquist, but his decision-making, especially at the speed of the college game was sometimes suspect. Perhaps the change of scenery will help him turn things around.

Minnesota Gopher Hockey is very overrated and I think Lofquist figured out he was losing the gain he had before joining this lousy & boring team. The homegrown Minnesota boys who bought into Minnesota hockey but the coaching is suffering. Lucia took the wind out of his sails after he had 2 great starts last year. This team sucks a good player dry. He had a couple strikes against him to start with: 1. He isn’t a Minnesotan and for those who aren’t raised there do not understand that there is no “Minnesota Nice”! They treat those from others states like dog crap, including Gopher Hockey. 2. He wasn’t drafted. Most of the over glorified Gopher team is drafted & Lucia plays his draftees whether they deserve the ice time or not. What have we seen from Mr. Hockey, Aaron Ness? 3. Lucia wasn’t giving him the ice time he deserved. Why would a player with this caliber sit in his suit & tie watching team members with a lot less talent get the ice time? I am glad somebody finally told Lucia & the Golden Gooph-ups where to go! You don’t deserve him! Go Sam.
