Czarnik Leaves Michigan for OHL; Campbell Next?

The Plymouth Whalers acquired Robbie Czarnik's rights from the Oshawa Generals, and Czarnik has left Michigan to play for Plymouth. At least it's a short drive across town for him.

Czarnik had a fairly average freshman season with Michigan, but looked like he was starting to reach his enormous potential this year with 3 goals and 3 assists in 6 games.

More damaging for Michigan is that I've now heard from a couple of different sources that 2010 goaltending recruit Jack Campbell never signed a letter of intent with Michigan during the early signing period. I haven't heard anything official about a de-commit or making an agreement with Windsor of the OHL, and the Big Ten does have stricter rules about the early signing period, but you'd have to imagine getting Campbell in the fold would have been priority 1A for Michgan.

Update: Here is Michigan press release on their early signers, with no mention of Campbell.

Update II: It's looking like Campbell will end up signing with the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL at some point, probably once he is done at the NTDP.

Canada must be hurting for players being they are going after so many USA boys….we must not be too bad at hockey if they are always crossing the border!!! It is funny how Canada has such pride in there sport and it is hockey or nothing up there. They trash USA hockey but then again they are always going after our boys! lol Who’s laughing now! Nothing like going for that 1% group trying to play in the NHL, whatever and good luck!

NCAA IS FOR THE MINNESOTA KIDS

The boys born in Michigan ive noticed seem to want to play real hockey, in your face hockey like the OHL its something ive been told by almost every Michigan born player ive talked to if the ohl calls on them they all seem to want to play that style, if their college money is covered.

Pathetic

Pretty sad that a few OHL fans feel they have to trash talk NCAA hockey as much as possible. I mean, if your league is that much better, why do you have to assert yourselves so much? It’s not like this blog exists to bash the major junior leagues, but instead has occasionally presented rational arguments about both routes, backed up by logic and facts. Nevertheless, the minute there is a defection to report you guys are on here crowing about it – very mature.

I agree… I think it’s sad and pathetic that these OHL fans come on here every time someone leaves for major junior and bash NCAA hockey. Both the OHL and the NCAA are great options for hockey players looking to go to the NHL. Some players will benefit more from the NCAA, others from the OHL or the other major junior leagues. And maybe some aren’t looking for the fastest route to the NHL, they are looking to get there at any means and if that takes some time then so be it. And you people like “ohcanada” coming on here just to bash NCAA hockey is a douche move. Seriously, it’s time to grow up and accept that there are good players in many different leagues that have the tools to make it to the big show and how fast they get there should make no difference.

Lets be honest, its a two way street. The blogger here takes shots at the OHL and the “its the best route to the NHL” theory all the time. OHL fans take shots at him, its how this site works. To ignore both sides of it is somewhat ignorant.

It is a two way street, he hammers the CHL, CHL fans come back to hammer him, its how this blog has worked for a while. As I said previously, to act like either side of the argument is somewhat ignorant.
