The DelCastillo Story Finally Comes Out
After battling in court for about a year and a half to get documents released, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner finally published their story on Doc DelCastillo's resignation.
Who knows how close the story is to the actual truth. Most of the story comes from DelCastillo himself, so there's at least bias in the retelling of it. One thing DelCastillo is absolutely right about, however, is that it wasn't worth it for him to fight this thing. Regardless of what had happened, it had become obvoius that nobody wanted him up there in Alaska anymore, and he had nothing to gain by trying to stick around.

Mid-October 2007 Doc's comments to the News Miner on his team ...
The link to the article is no longer active but here’s what he said about the two guys he now claims were conspiring to oust him …
Steve Vanoosten – “He’s another who’s on a learning curve …”
Braden Walls – “… he needs to continue to get better.”
Here’s a link to a post I made on the NewsMiner interview in which Doc basically dissed 3/4’s of his team. Unfortunately, at the time I only included edited “blurbs” of his comments.
But I do have to say that with only about two months with his new team he wasn’t exactly being publicly supportive of his guys. Not the smartest start ever. Of course my characterizations of his comments are mine alone. If the full comments were available somebody else might draw a different conclusion. But I don’t think I was being unfair to the guy on the whole.
I also found it interesting how many times Doc uses “like” in his comments for this story about his resignation/dismissal.
