New Commits

Cedar Rapids defenseman Bryce Aneloski committed to Nebraska-Omaha. Aneloski played one semester at Providence last season, before returning to the USHL. His play has really taken off so far this season, especially on the offensive end of the ice. Currently, he's actually tied for the league lead in scoring, but a 6-point game against the NTDP padded his stats a little bit.

USHR was the first of a couple different sources to report that another Cedar Rapids player, forward Sam Warning committed to Minnesota for the 2011 season. Warning played in St. Louis last season and was picked for the US Select team this past summer. Two years from now, there will be quite a Missouri influence in the WCHA with Warning at Minnesota, Scott Mayfield at Denver, and Michael Parks at North Dakota.

Cornell picked up a commitment from NTDP U17 forward Cole Bardreau. Commitments have been slow coming out of the U17s this year, in part because they're getting pounded on a nightly basis in the USHL this year. But Bardreau is a hard worker that should be a nice fit for the Big Red.

Cracks me up!

This is the stuff that makes me laugh at the utter absurdity of it all. Why in the world do NCAA schools play this ridiculous waiting game? Think about it this way for a second. The NTDP has about 23 of the top 30 American kids. There are 57 division one colleges out there who graduate an average of 5 players per year, which makes room for roughly 285 kids per year at the D1 level. Now, someone please explain to me why these colleges are waiting to offer the top 25?! How is it that the WHL can identify NHL prospects at 14 years old, the O and the Q at 15 and some colleges wait until a kid is 20 before they make their mind up on a kid? This is probably the same reason why, for the third consecutive year, we are seeing record numbers of Yanks in the CHL. 111 Is this year’s number. Do I hear 120 for next year?!
